Welcome: Everglades National Park
Description: Students will plan their class trip to the Everglades National Park in Florida. They will be learning the history of the park and discovering the plants and animals they will encounter on their trip.
We're going on a class trip! Our class will be visiting the Everglades National Park in Florida. You need to start planning, there's no time to wait! What types of plants and animals will we see? Travel to Everglades National Park
Task
You will be creating a poster that will plan our trip to the Everglades National Park. Your poster needs to include

an endangered animal that lives there and is native to the Everglades- information about the animal, why it is endangered, and a picture (Can be drawn or printed.)

an endangered plant that grows in the park and is native to the Everglades- description, why it is endangered, and a picture

3 interesting historical facts about the Everglades

a drawing and description of an activity that we can do during our visit to the Everglades

include in your poster a details of what the weather conditions might be during our trip
Process
Step 1. Read about the Everglades National Park. Click here.
Step 2. Watch a video about an air boat ride in the Everglades. Click here
Step 3. Learn about the history of the Park. Click here.
Step 4. What kinds of plants and animals live in the Everglades? Click here Click here
Step 5. We will be camping at the park. Find out how much it costs to stay there for 2 nights. Remember to include park fees. Click here
Step 6. What will the weather be like when we are on our trip? Check out here to find out about the weather conditions for Everglades National Park.
Step 7. Create a poster. Include one animal and one plant that you learned about, are they endangered? Why? On your poster, write about 3 historical facts that you found interesting. Include an activity that you would like to do while we are there, draw a picture of this activity. Also write on your poster how much our trip will cost to camp and visit the park for 2 days and 2 nights, draw a picture of what our campsite might look like. Make sure you draw what our weather might look like during this time of the year.
Step 8. Write a letter to the Park Rangers at the Everglades National Park. Thank them for taking care of the Everglades. Include 3 things that you learned about the Park, and also tell them what animal that lives there was your favorite.

Evaluation
You will be graded on the content of your poster about the Everglades, which will include:

Your grade will also be based on your letter to the Park Ranger, remember that it needs to be well-written, thanking the Everglades Park Rangers for caring for the park, include 3 things you learned about the Everglades, and also about one animal that you found to be the most interesting.
The rubric can be found in the Everglades Project file below. Neatness and accuracy are important and will also be included in your grade. Use your time wisely, the class time that you're given to do this project will be graded as well.
